Yannis & the Yaw has won The Artist Award at tonight’s Rolling Stone UK Awards 2024.
Picking up the award from comedian Aisling Bea at the Roundhouse in London alongside bandmate Vincent Taurelle, Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis discussed how his debut EP Lagos Paris London sees him honour his late friend and collaborator Tony Allen, who he worked with on the record nearly a decade ago.
Philippakis said: “None of this would have been possible witout Tony Allen, who we made the record with. All of this needs to go up to Tony.”
He added: “We wouldn’t be here without Tony Allen. Life is short, we’re here for a good time not a long time – let’s make it count. This one’s for Tony.”
Yannis & the Yaw beat a stellar list of nominees including Charli XCX, Nia Archives, Ghetts, Nubya Garcia and more to the award.
