The BBC has confirmed that The Traitors will return for series two, with applications now open for the surprise smash-hit reality show.

Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the show debuted at the end of last year and followed what happens when 22 strangers play the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust in the hope of bagging a maximum prize of up to £120,000.

The majority of these players are known as the F’aithful’ but three of them have secretly adopted the role of the ‘Traitors’. Those traitors will meet in secret and decide who to murder (eliminate from the game in the dead of night). The aim of the Traitors is to stay undetected until the end of the game.

While the Faithful are doing their utmost to avoid being eliminated, they must figure out who is a traitor and vote them out in order to get ahead in the game. This in itself proves strategic, with every vote posing the risk of kicking out a fellow Faithful.

The high-stakes drama of the show has won legions of fans so it’s no surprise that the BBC has now confirmed its return for season two.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC, said: “Last year’s ambitious and bingeable hit The Traitors with Claudia Winkleman is coming back with the brilliant team at Studio Lambert set to bring viewers another magnificent series full of drama and suspense. We can certainly expect even more deceit and psychological games for the Traitors and Faithfuls.”

If you’re hoping to take part in this year’s series then you’ll be pleased to hear that applications are now open too and you can apply here. “A game of trust and treachery…do you have what it takes to play?”, states the start of the intriguing application form.

What’s more, successful contestants will get to lock horns with Claudia Winkleman who returns as host.

“I can’t wait to go back to the castle to watch people play the greatest game on television. I’m knitting a high funnel sweater immediately,” said Winkleman.
