The show, a UK offshoot of the New York institution, launched earlier this year to rave reviews, and is currently six episodes through its first run of eight shows.

It has now been confirmed that season two of the show will begin in September, with 12 episodes running into early 2027.

Sky said: “It’s fair to say people doubted SNL would work in the UK, but thanks to Lorne Michaels, his longtime Saturday Night Live producing team and UTAS UK, alongside our brilliant cast and writers, SNL UK is Sky’s most talked about show of the year. It’s now firmly part of the cultural conversation and we’re thrilled the show will be returning in the Autumn, bringing laughter and mischief to our audiences, live from London on a Saturday night!”

Executive Director and SNL head honcho Lorne Michaels added: “I’m incredibly proud of our team and the show. It keeps getting better every week. I’m grateful to Dana Strong and Sky for believing in and supporting SNL UK. I’m excited for the season ahead.”

Hosts for SNL UK so far have included Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed and most recently Aimee Lou Wood, with music from Wet Leg, Wolf AliceKasabian, Jorja Smith, Foo Fighters and more.

Speaking to Rolling Stone UK about the show’s launch and initial success, cast member Larry Dean said: “One thing we’ve done really well is prove the haters wrong,” adding that said haters “were cringing before we even started, and I think we’ve shown them…

“I was very quietly confident that the show was going to be great, because [in] the writers and performers, the standard is really high,” Dean added. “We’re always trying to make sure that we’re doing something a bit different and that’s ballsy. British humour is a bit ballsy.”

The show’s Musical Director, Pauli Lovejoy, added of the show’s analogue style: “When you see those cue cards, you see how playful it is. That’s someone’s handwriting, it’s not Times New Roman. That in itself will give you a different feeling, and it’s those small percentages throughout every department that make a massive difference to the end result. The idea of being a purist isn’t something that is spoken about, but it is an unspoken intention.”

This week’s episode of SNL UK (May 9) will be hosted by Hannah Waddingham and feature music from recent Rolling Stone UK cover star, Myles Smith.
