From cinematic country and road-tested rock to multidimensional pop and soul-deep blues, these independent artists are entering 2027 on their own terms.

Independent music continues to thrive wherever originality, perseverance and a strong identity converge. As genre boundaries become increasingly fluid and listeners look beyond traditional gatekeepers, distinctive artists are finding new ways to reach audiences.

Presented by MTS Management Group, this list spotlights ten artists whose releases, awards, performances and creative growth make them Rising Artists in 2027.

1. See Your Shadow

Led by artistic director Michael Coleman, See Your Shadow approaches every recording as a self-contained world, assembling vocalists and musicians according to the needs of each song. That flexible structure allows the Phoenix-based collective to explore country, Americana, rock and soul while maintaining its commitment to narrative songwriting.

See Your Shadow has achieved multipe number-one singles across independent radio and digital charts. Its honours include Best New Country Group at the 2023 New Music Awards, as well as Independent Music Network recognition as Best Country Duo or Group.

The 2026 single “Another Saturday” continued that momentum, turning a familiar emotional situation into an evocative country narrative. As the collective moves into 2027, listeners may not know precisely where it will go next—but they can expect a story worth following.

2. Robert Ross

Australian-Canadian singer-songwriter Robert Ross brings an international perspective to country music without losing its small-town honesty. Born on the Miramichi in New Brunswick, Canada, Ross absorbed country and folk music through his mother’s singing and the community dances of his childhood.

Before pursuing music full-time, he served more than eleven years in the Canadian Army, including three and a half years overseas. That experience lends weight to songs about perseverance, loyalty, heartache and redemption.

His 2026 single “For You Girl,” co-written and produced by Gil Grand, was recorded at Station West in Nashville with musicians including Troy Lancaster, Joe Spivey, Matt King, Dan Dugmore and Mike Rojas. The song reached the MusicRow chart, while “Drink ’Em Down” gained wider exposure through the season premiere of Tulsa King. Ross enters 2027 with a career connecting Canada, Australia and Nashville—and a voice grounded in hard-earned experience.

Pittsburgh-area singer-songwriter Ashley Puckett brings a contemporary edge to country music while remaining grounded in the genre’s tradition of direct, emotionally honest storytelling. Influenced by artists including Lee Ann Womack, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Jo Dee Messina, she writes about love, resilience and the difficult choices that shape a life.

Her debut album, Never Say Never, introduced an artist equally comfortable with vulnerability and attitude. “Bulletproof” reached number one on the New Music Weekly AM/FM chart, while “Tequila”—Puckett’s first released co-write—reached the MusicRow CountryBreakout Top 80. She was also named the 2022 ISSA US Female Emerging Artist.

The 2024 single “Anchor” revealed a more reflective side, using steadfast love as its emotional centre. With growing streaming numbers, radio recognition and a catalogue that balances polished production with personal conviction, Puckett enters 2027 on the heels of her single, “Stone Cold Broken Heart.”

Western Pennsylvania’s Noble Hops makes working-class rock built from loud guitars, road miles and lived experience. The band comprises Utah Burgess on vocals, 12-string acoustic and electric rhythm guitar; Tony Villella on electric rhythm and lead guitar with backing vocals; Johnny “Sleeves” Costa on bass and backing vocals; and “The” Brad Hurlburt on drums.

Drawing from classic rock, roots music and Americana, Noble Hops explores the sacrifice and stubborn sense of purpose behind a life devoted to music. That identity comes through clearly on “Music Man,” released through Shady Lady Records and recorded at Rattle Clack Entertainment.

The group completed 89 performances across 52 venues and received three Josie Music Awards nominations in 2026 after earning two the previous year. Burgess has also supported independent artists through The Grass Roots Show on WLER 97.7, which has aired since 2012. Noble Hops enters 2027 with an audience built one room, mile and performance at a time.

His album Glitterati explores fame, romance, ambition and identity while asking what remains after the flashbulbs fade. “Cool Shades” offers an inviting entry point, pairing a relaxed surface with cinematic production and an awareness of the shifting line between confidence and vulnerability.

ARGYRO’s background in percussion, songwriting, international performance and acting gives his work a distinctly visual quality. As Glitterati continues to find new listeners, he enters 2027 making music designed for more than playlists.
