Hugh Grant has told Nigel Farage to “go f*** yourself” after the politician announced a campaign for a net zero referendum.

The actor responded to a Twitter post from Farage on Saturday (March 5), in which he announced a new campaign to “kill of Boris Johnson’s ruinous green agenda”.

“We demand a referendum on Net Zero,” he wrote, to which Grant responded: “Russian warship – go f*** yourself”.

Farage tweeted an article about the campaign from the Mail on Sunday, which said the former UKIP leader plans to model the campaign on his “successful campaign for a Brexit referendum” and will “call for the abandonment of the flagship green policy”.

It comes after The Times reported that Johnson believes the West should be granted a “climate change pass” to help reduce reliance on Russian gas supplies.

Facing pressures over the 2050 net-zero target, Johnson reportedly wants the West to increase its own gas production to help remove “massive leverage” Russia has over EU countries.

‘Notting Hill’ actor Grant has been vocal on Twitter in the past about various political issues. In January, he was among a host of high profile figures to criticise plans to scrap the BBC license fee.

“The BBC is something the whole world admires with envy. It is entirely appropriate that the insecure, spittle-flecked nut jobs of this government want to destroy it,” he wrote.

Last month it was speculated that Grant would be playing an Oompa Loompa in ‘Wonka’, the ‘Charlie And The Chocolate Factory’ prequel film starring Timothée Chalamet.

Much of the film details are still under wraps, with a release date slated for March 17, 2023.
