Blur frontman Damon Albarn hit out at the band’s crowd at Coachella this weekend, telling them that they would be “never seeing us again”.

The band played the main stage at the first weekend of the California event on Saturday night (April 13), before Tyler, the Creator‘s headline set.

During the show, Albarn tried to get the subdued crowd to sing along to their hit ‘Girls & Boys’, but faced a lacklustre response.

“You can do it better than that,” he told the crowd, going on to add: “You’re never seeing us again, so you might as well fucking sing it. Know what I’m saying?”

The crowd also faced criticism online, with one fan writing: “WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING im convinced coachella has the worst vibes and people possible. it’s fucking Blur, show some respect!!!”

Another said: “Most of these ppl at coachella don’t even know how lucky they are to see blur THAT SHOULD BE MEE.”

But others questioned the band’s US reputation, with one writing: “Wow, absolutely shocked that an audience of Gen Z influencers in the Californian desert didn’t know or care who Blur are. That’s the Labour parliamentary candidate for Mid Sussex on the drums. Show some respect!”

In spite of the muted reaction, it seemed there was no bad blood on the band’s part. “Coachella, thank you,” they wrote on social media – alongside a series of snaps of their set.

They’ll also get another crack at the festival when they return for the second weekend (April 19-21).

Elsewhere on weekend one of Coachella, Lana Del Rey was joined by Billie Eilish during her headline set and No Doubt reunited for an Olivia Rodrigo-featuring performance.

The festival was closed by Doja Cat last night (April 14). Coachella will return to Indio, California next weekend.
