Huey Morgan leaves Fun Lovin’ Criminals
Fun Lovin’ Criminals confirmed Morgan's departure, saying they "wish him all the best"
Fun Lovin’ Criminals have announced the departure of their singer/guitarist Huey Morgan.
Morgan, who is also known for his career as a DJ on BBC 6 Music, formed the New York band in 1993 with Brian Leiser and Steve Borgovini. The latter musician left the group five years later.
Fun Lovin’ Criminals announced Morgan’s departure on their social media earlier today (November 12): “Huey has officially confirmed his departure from the band. We wish him all the best with his endeavours.
“We will continue as Fun Lovin’ Criminals because of the love and dedication we have for our music and our fans. More details to follow.”
Morgan has not yet commented on the news.
The band released their debut album, ‘Come Find Yourself’ in 1996 and followed it up with five further albums, the latest being 2010’s ‘Classic Fantastic’.
Their debut single, ‘Scooby Snacks’, reached the top 40 in the UK, US, Australia, New Zealand and beyond.
Morgan currently hosts ‘The Huey Show’ between 10am and 1pm on Saturdays on BBC Radio 6 Music. He’s also hosted programmes on BBC Radio 2.
In a 2019 interview with Forbes Morgan spoke about Fun Lovin’ Criminals’ history, explaining that despite being less active in recent years the band have remained strong. “We’ve been playing together for 25 years now,” he said. “It’s kind of like the Mafia; you don’t break up, you don’t really leave the band, you know?”
The singer and guitarist released his debut solo album, ‘Say It To My Face’, in 2012 under the moniker Huey And The New Yorkers.
He was spotlighted in 2013 after smashing a cup on the BBC music panel show ‘Never Mind The Buzzcocks’ and storming off the set.
“I just thought you guys might do something different for a change,” he told guest hosts Rizzle Kicks when they’d asked him to complete lines from Fun Lovin’ Criminals songs as part of the programmes’ ‘Next Lines’ segment.
Morgan later poked fun at the incident, posting in a since-deleted tweet a photo of a cat in a tea cup with the caption: “Oh shit! Huey’s here?”
