“He wanted me to introduce him as the biggest rock star on the planet, and I wasn’t on board with that," said Whitehall.

BRIT Awards host Jack Whitehall has revealed that Jared Leto once tried to tamper with the presenter’s script in an attempt to be introduced as “the biggest rock star on the planet”.

Whitehall was asked during his appearance on BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills’ Big Guest Friday whether anyone had taken one of his jokes “really badly”, to which the comedian recalled the incident with the actor and 30 Seconds To Mars singer.

“He didn’t like his intro,” Whitehall remembered, “and then during the show, whilst I was up on stage hosting it, one of the producers found him by the autocue with his publicist changing my script, actually deleting the intro and typing in his own one,” he continued.

“I’m like Ron Burgundy, I would’ve just read it, but someone found him,” Whitehall quipped.

“He wanted me to introduce him as the biggest rock star on the planet, and I wasn’t on board with that – I wanted to introduce him as ‘The Hipster Jesus’, and that was deleted,” he laughed, before saying: “Now the autocue is guarded as well. I’ll have my mum there dressed as Chappell Roan!”

This year’s BRIT Awards, held at Manchester’s Co-op Live for the first time ever, will mark Whitehall’s sixth time hosting, following both last year’s ceremony and previous editions in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

The star-studded line-up of performers includes Harry Styles, Olivia Dean, Wolf Alice and Alex Warren. As for the award contenders, Olivia Dean and Lola Young lead the way with five nominations each, while Sam Fender has four and Lily Allen, Dave, Fred again.. and Jim Legxacy have three apiece.

This year’s ceremony will be held on February 28 and will be broadcast live on ITV1 and ITVX.
