Stephen Graham stars in Myles Smith’s new video for ‘Hold Me in the Dark’
“At its heart, it’s a story about hope, sacrifice and the lengths we go to for the people we care about,” Smith says of the song and video
Myles Smith has shared a new video for his song ‘Hold Me in the Dark’, starring Stephen Graham.
The track appears on Smith’s debut album My Mess, My Heart, My Life, which was released last week (June 19).
“‘Hold Me in the Dark’ is a song about loving someone through uncertainty and staying beside them when life feels impossibly heavy,” Smith explains. “The video explores that idea through the story of a father and daughter.
“What I love about the film is that, at first, you think you’re watching someone unravel. But as the story unfolds, you realise that every strange object and every seemingly irrational decision is actually an act of love. He’s not losing his grip on reality – he’s trying to do something impossible for the person he loves most.”
The singer and former Rolling Stone UK cover star adds: “At its heart, it’s a story about hope, sacrifice and the lengths we go to for the people we care about. Even in the darkest moments, love can still give us something to hold on to.
“It was also really important to me that the video shines a light on the extraordinary work that doctors and nurses do every day, and recognises the countless families navigating illness, grief and uncertainty. So many people know what it feels like to sit beside someone they love and wish they could somehow make things better. I hope this film makes those people feel seen and reminds them that even when we can’t fix everything, love can still be an incredibly powerful thing.”
Reviewing My Mess, My Heart, My Life, Rolling Stone UK said: “What sets Smith apart from his contemporaries is a willingness to embrace and translate the confusion that persists within him. This is an album that tracks his journey of discovery but doesn’t signal any neat ending.
“When announcing that the album release would be delayed, Smith told fans: “I’m close to burning out… I don’t want to meet this moment exhausted.” It was another moment of refreshing frankness from a singer providing far more than first meets the eye.”
Later this year, he will head out on his first UK arena tour.
