Blossoms and Rick Astley have confirmed they’ll join forces again to cover The Smiths for a last minute set at Glastonbury this evening.

The Stockport band previously came together with the 80s icon in 2021 for two shows in London and Manchester, which saw them covering the eclectic back catalogue of the legendary group.

Now, it’s been confirmed that they’ll reprise the act for one night only – performing on Glastonbury’s Woodsies Stage at 6PM.

Confirming the news, the group shared a photo that showed them hanging out backstage with Astley at the festival.

It’s the second performance of the day for Astley, who made his Glastonbury debut this morning to a huge crowd on the Pyramid Stage. As well as performing the likes of ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’, the show also saw Astley heading behind the drums to deliver a powerful performance of AC/DC’s ‘Highway To Hell’, having explained how the track had been a formative influence on his childhood.

Reviewing Astley and Blossoms’ London show in 2021, Rolling Stone UK wrote: “Blossoms and Astley really care about the source material, and tonight’s show champions how exactly The Smiths’ music has endured in 2021 – the answer resoundingly arriving in the thunderous singalongs that erupt throughout. As Blossoms guitarist Tom Ogden says, “it’s strange, but in a good way”.
