Blur announce Paul Weller as support at second Wembley show
The Britpop icons are returning for a series of massive gigs and headline festival performances this summer
Paul Weller has been announced as support at Blur‘s second Wembley Stadium show this July.
The Britpop icons announced they would be reuniting for a massive stadium gig on July 8 back in November, with Slowthai, Jockstrap and Self Esteem as support.
A few days later they announced a second show for July 9 “due to phenomenal demand”.
The band have now confirmed that Weller will open on night two along with two tone ska revival band The Selector, and a DJ set from former champion snooker player Steve Davis.

This summer’s shows will mark the first time the band have performed together since releasing their acclaimed eighth album The Magic Whip back in 2015.
“We really love playing these songs and thought it’s about time we did it again,” frontman Albarn said in a statement, announcing the reunion.
Graham Coxon added: I’m really looking forward to playing with my blur brothers again and revisiting all those great songs… blur live shows are always amazing for me. A nice guitar and an amp turned right up and loads of smiling faces…”
Dave Rowntree said that after “chaos” of the last few years, “it’s great to get back out to play some songs together on a summer’s day in London”, while Alex James added: “There’s always something really special when the four of us get in a room. It’s nice to think that on 8th July that room will be Wembley Stadium.”
Upon the announcement, drummer Dave Rowntree described the Wembley shows as a “bucketlist” dream.
“We’re a band that’s done almost everything it’s possible to do… what an iconic place, what an iconic venue. It’s just incredibly exciting,” he told Sky News.
Blur will also headline Primavera Sound in Barcelona and Madrid this year, alongside the likes of Depeche Mode, Kendrick Lamar and Rosalía.
It will take place in the traditional Barcelona location of The Parc del Fòrum from June 1-3, before moving to the Ciudad del Rock in Arganda del Rey in Madrid for the first time ever from June 8-10.
