Fontaines D.C. have announced the death of their manager Trevor Dietz, who they have hailed as “the sixth member of the band”.

Dietz passed away on Sunday (June 7), but a cause of death is yet to be announced.

“We are utterly heartbroken to let you know that on Sunday June 7th we lost our dear friend and manager Trevor,” the Dublin band wrote on Instagram.

“Trevor was beside us from the beginning of our journey as a band, we have never known Fontaines D.C. without him, the sixth member of the band. He cared passionately for us and for what was fair and right in the wider world. He was fearless in his beliefs. We will miss him always.”

The band added: “We ask that you kindly respect our privacy and that of his family at this terribly difficult time. RIP Trev.”

Paying tribute, Lambrini Girls commented on the band’s post: “Rest in peace, Trev. He went above and beyond for everyone and championed so many diy bands, the impact he had is beyond measure. Lost for words. Sending our love and condolences to all of you.”

Other tributes came from Kneecap‘s Móglaí Bap, who wrote: “Suaimhneas síoraí Trev,” which translates in Gaelic to “rest in eternal peace”.

Annie Mac added: “Sending all my love to you lads and to Trevor’s loved ones.”

Speaking to BIMM Dublin in 2021, Dietz explained how he had hosted the band for early gigs at Dublin venue The Workman’s Club, where he worked as a manager.

“I went for a coffee with the boys in William Street and asked if they’d set their goals and their endgame,” said Dietz. “I wouldn’t have worked with the band if they hadn’t had huge expectations and huge dreams. If other people had heard the conversation that day they would have gone, ‘Jesus, these guys are nuts, it’s not going to happen’, but I knew we could go well beyond Ireland with this. So, first and foremost, you need a band that shares your vision and who are reliable, accountable and honest.”

Fontaines D.C. are set to return this summer for a string of European dates, kicking off in Cadiz, Spain on August 8 and taking in their first ever headline slot at Reading & Leeds Festival.
