Matty Healy has delivered a stinging rebuke to Noel Gallagher, after the latter called the former a “slack-jawed fuckwit”.

Last month, Gallagher finally responded to Healy’s request earlier this year for Oasis to “stop marding” and reform, suggesting that The 1975 themselves should split and that Healy should “get over how shit his band is.”

Gallagher then doubled down last week (June 3) in an interview with NME, calling The 1975 “fucking shit.” Now, Healy has responded in kind, as he opened his own show with a last-minute solo slot at St. Anne’s Park in Dublin last night.

Filling in for scheduled support Caroline Polachek, who was forced to pull out after losing her voice, Healy played an acoustic set of lesser-aired 1975 tracks. Addressing Gallagher’s comments, he drily noted: I love Noel Gallagher. He’s just getting on. The difference between me and Noel is that I do a series of interviews to promote an album, whereas he does an album to promote a series of interviews.”

“But we love you, Noel. Get Oasis back together!” He also claimed that The 1975 had asked Noel’s brother Liam to replace Polachek, and that he had said he would, had he not been busy. Healy played ten solo songs in Dublin, including rarely-aired 1975 cuts like ‘Them Because She Goes’ and ‘Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America’. He also covered Colin Hay’s ‘I Just Don’t Think I’ll Ever Get Over You’.

He also found time to reference the recent controversy over his appearance on The Adam Friedland Show, where he laughed along as the hosts used imitated a variety of accents to mock the rapper Ice Spice. He provided a literal blanket apology by spray-painting ‘SORRY’ on a white sheet, before skewering it by adding a question mark after a moment of apparent deliberation.

Healy’s profile has arguably never been higher, thanks to an apparent recent dalliance with Taylor Swift. TMZ reported on Monday (June 5) that the romance has run its course.
