Nell Mescal unveils new single, ‘Homesick’, and video
The Irish singer-songwriter plays London tonight (January 18)

Nell Mescal has released a new single ‘Homesick’, and an accompanying video – you can see it below.
The Irish singer-songwriter first made waves last summer with debut track ‘Graduating’, and has now followed it up with another new song, written whilst in Los Angeles but inspired by her move from her native Maynooth, County Kildare to London. “I wrote ‘Homesick’ on a trip to LA,” she said.
“It’s about when I first moved to London from Ireland and really missed home, but also being determined to stick it out so it doesn’t look like I failed at moving away.”
“The lyrics give a bit of insight to how hard it is to move away at a young age and the loneliness that comes with it,” she explains, “while the music is upbeat and hopeful to show that you can do hard things and that you can make a home wherever you go if you give it time”. Like ‘Graduating’, ‘Homesick’ was produced by Steph Marziano and comes accompanied by a video, directed by Dora Paphides.
The younger sister of Normal People and Aftersun star Paul, Mescal is following up her UK tour support to Phoebe Green late last year with some headline dates of her own in 2023; her second London headline appearance is tonight (January 18), at The Grace in Islington. That show is sold out; in May, she’ll play Dot to Dot Festival in Bristol and Nottingham, as well as The Road to the Great Escape in Glasgow and then the festival proper in Brighton. Speaking to Rolling Stone UK last July, Mescal discussed bouncing lyrical ideas off of her actor brother. “He loves music and always has something to say. Something positive to look at too. I love going back and forth on lyrics with him because we have a very similar brain and sometimes we’re both quite stubborn in our ways, so it’s nice to bounce off someone like him and get something better out of it.”
