Noel Gallagher has misgendered Sam Smith while calling pop stars at the top of the charts “fucking idiots”.
The High Flying Birds singer and guitarist was being interviewed on a Dutch radio station when he made the comments.
Asked by a presenter at Kink for his opinions on the current music climate, the former Oasis songwriter said: “Music has become quite fractured and chart music is dominated by pop.
“Pop music is alright if the pop stars are cool. Sadly the stars of today are fucking idiots.”
When asked who he was referring to as an uncool artist, he said: “Sam Smith.” Probed further to explain why he named Smith, Gallagher said: ‘Look at him!’
Smith revealed in 2019 that they go by the pronouns they/them, meaning that Gallagher misgendered the singer.
It comes as a video emerged recently of Smith being verbally abused in New York, with the singer receiving a string of insults. In the clip the British singer is seen ignoring a woman as she disgustingly brands the Grammy winner a ‘paedophile’ and continues to walk away.

Meanwhile, Gallagher’s comments follow him last month announcing details of his new album Council Skies.
The fourth High Flying Birds record from Gallagher is set to arrive on June 2 via Sour Mash. The follow-up to 2017’s Who Built The Moon, the project is said to see the former Oasis singer taking a look back at his Mancunian origins.
“It’s going back to the beginning. Daydreaming, looking up at the sky and wondering about what life could be … that’s as true to me now as it was in the early ’90s,” Gallagher said of the upcoming album , which was recorded at his own Lone Star Sound studios in London.
Produced by Gallagher alongside long-time collaborator Paul ‘Strangeboy’ Stacey, the album also features performances from Johnny Marr on three tracks, including the recent single ‘Pretty Boy’.
“When I was growing up in poverty and unemployment, music took me out of that. Top of the Pops on TV transformed your Thursday night into this fantasy world, and that’s what I think music should be. I want my music to be elevating and transforming in some way.”
Meanwhile, lead single ‘Easy Now’ hears Gallagher deal with psych-infused sounds, while an official video features a lead performance from House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock.
