Oasis’ ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’ crowned biggest UK studio album of all time

Oasis’ (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? has been officially crowned as the UK’s biggest studio album of all time.
The band’s 1995 second record is also ranked at Number Three on the list of the biggest albums ever when UK sales and streaming date are accounted for, as per data from the Official Charts Company.
The seminal album has achieved a staggering 6.2 million UK chart units to date and experienced a spike in streams following Oasis’ triumphant Live ’25 comeback tour last year.
Though it is the biggest studio album, it ranks overall behind two old Greatest Hits compilations from Queen and ABBA, which come in at Number One and Two, respectively.
Others in the top ten include Adele‘s 21 at Number Four, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours at Number Six and Michael Jackson’s Thriller at Eight.
Becca Monahan and Chris Austin, interim Co-Managing Directors at the Official Charts, said: “Huge congratulations to Oasis, as the incomparable (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? is officially crowned the UK’s biggest studio album of all time.
“Three decades on, its scale and influence remain extraordinary – a defining British record that continues to unite generations, fill stadiums and soundtrack lives.
“Celebrating 70 years of the Official Albums Chart offers a unique opportunity to honour the album’s enduring place at the heart of music culture. The way fans discover and enjoy music may be ever-changing, but the album remains the ultimate expression of an artist’s creativity, ambition and vision.”
They added: “For seven decades, the chart has captured the records that seize the public imagination – making the achievements of every artist on this list a fitting centrepiece to this landmark anniversary.”
Elsewhere, Oasis are reportedly set to continue their reunion tour and announce a set of massive 2027 gigs in the UK and Europe.
After a British peer claimed the band were playing Knebworth this summer before backtracking, new reports now say that the band will return to the site of their most famous gigs as part of a new slate of 2027 shows, which will also include a hometown residency at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium.
