Craig David has shared a video of the moment he tried to rescue a flying fish, only for the creature to be gobbled by a much bigger fish when he returned it back to the sea.

The UK R&B titan shared the clip yesterday, while enjoying a luxury holiday in the Maldives.

The clip begins with Craig discovering the distinctive blue fish on the dock while enjoying dinner.

“I’m just gonna grab you, here we go, [I’m] putting you back in, come on man, stay with me, stay with me,” he says.

“Oh my gosh,” he adds, before throwing the fish back into the sea. “That’s the full moon for you. Hope he’s still alive.”

Encouraging the fish’s return to the ocean, he says: “Come on, come on, you’ve still got it inside of you, you’ve still got it.”

But things then take a turn for the worst as a much larger fish appears and suddenly swallows Craig’s fishy friend whole. “Oh my god,” Craig says. “Ohhhhh dear.”

It’s since become a viral hit, with many remarking online about the reality of the bizarre situation.

“Flew to safety on Monday, thrown to my death on Tuesday,” wrote one fan – reference his seminal hit ‘7 Days’.

“Fish said I’m walking away,” said another quick-witted fan.

“Oh my GOD,” added Ellie Goulding.

In Craig’s defence, another said: “To be fair, the fish would have died on land too.”

RIP, Flying Fish. We barely knew ye.
