Snoop Dogg pays tribute to “angel” mother after her death

Snoop Dogg has shared a tribute to his mother Beverly Tate after her death, aged 70.
The rapper announced her passing on Instagram yesterday (October 24), sharing a picture of him with his mother on a mobility scooter.
He captioned the snap: ““Mama thank u for having me.” In a second picture he wrote “Thank u god for giving me an angel for a mother”. He signed off “TWMA”, the abbreviation for “till we meet again”.
Snoop Dogg’s father, Vernell Vardado, confirmed Tate’s death on Instagram yesterday writing: “Snoops mom has passed today can all my fans pray for our family we need it more than ever.”
Snoop also posted a video of himself listening to ‘Giving Love’ by The Voices Of East Harlem, with a broken heart emoji as the caption.
Earlier this year, Tate was in hospital for an undisclosed illness, and her cause of death is not yet known. The rapper wrote on Instagram in May: ”I’m being tested right now, ya’ll. Make sure ya’ll pray for me and my family.”
Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, was named after his step father. Vernell left the family three months after his son was born.
Other musicians showed their support for the rapper, with Cardi B writing “Sorry uncle snoop. Love and peace to your family.”
Lizzo wrote “Your family is in my prayers”, while The Rock said “I’m so sorry Uso. All our Johnson love and mana sent you and your family’s way.”
In July, Snoop thanked fans for their support, sharing a video of him and his brothers visiting Tate in hospital. “Gotta stay strong, keep pushing on,” he wrote.
“They say God don’t put nothing on your shoulders you can’t handle. I’m being tested right now, ya’ll. Make sure ya’ll pray for me and my family.”
Snoop last week announced new project ‘The Algorithm’, an “all-encompassing new project that features artists from the legendary Def Jam label’s past, present and future”, according to a press release.
He also shared the track ‘Big Subwoofer’ by Mount Westmore, his rap group which also features Ice Cube and E-40.
