The Cribs have released their new single, ‘Sucked Sweet’, which was originally meant to appear on their eighth studio album, ‘Night Network’.

The single follows the release of last month’s ‘The Day I Got Lost Again’ and ‘Swinging At Shadows’, which was dropped in August. The Cribs will continue to release four two-track 7” vinyl records between September and December, including unheard tracks from their 2020 album, ‘Night Network’.

To support the track, The Cribs have also released a retro, ‘90s MTV-inspired music video, featuring a cameo from the band’s mother, Joan Jarman. The video was directed by Josh McCartney, Paul McCartney’s nephew.

The Cribs singer Gary Jarman has said ‘Sucked Sweet’ was supposed to be the 13th song on ‘Night Network’: “We always really loved it, but we ended up having to cut it right at the last minute cos of vinyl running times (it made the album too long, basically),” adding “We always felt kinda guilty about that, cos this song is one of the earliest ‘Night Network’ tracks, and ditching it felt like cutting an old friend from the guest list or something.”

Jarman continued: “Anyway, we are really happy that people get to hear it now, and that it has grown to become a single in its own right. A real Cinderella story, if you will.”

Released in 2020, ‘Night Network’ garnered rave reviews from critics, with NME awarding it five stars, calling the album “a victory lap”. The new physical two-track 7” vinyl records will feature home recordings on the B-sides.

On ‘Sucked Sweet’s B-side, ‘Bad Dream’, The Cribs guitarist and singer Ryan Jarman said the song “was recorded in Ross’ garage, at the height of the pandemic in November 2020 as we were all together to launch ‘Night Network’ and trying to make the most of our time when all the record stores were closed!”

He added: “It then sat unfinished until the vocals were recorded under duress in the hottest, stickiest bedroom in New York moments before England lost the finals of the Euros. It’s basically about how things that are supposed to be a dream can easily become a nightmare.”

The Cribs will embark on a UK tour in March 2022, starting at O2 Institute, Birmingham, on March 1.
