Grimes reveals she’s changed her and Elon Musk’s daughter’s name
The pair's second child, previously called Exa Dark Sideræl, was born via surrogate in 2021

Grimes has revealed that she has renamed her and Elon Musk’s daughter.
The Canadian artist – real name Claire Boucher – shares two children with the Twitter CEO and Tesla boss: son X Æ A-Xii, born in May 2020, and daughter Exa Dark Sideræl who arrived via surrogate in December 2021.
News of Boucher and Musk’s second child was shared accidentally during the former’s cover interview with Vanity Fair in March 2022 when the journalist heard the sound of a baby crying.
Taking to social media last Thursday (March 23), Grimes posted a rare photograph of her daughter alongside an image of herself in a matching red onesie. They were both sporting green/yellow hair in the pictures.
“Y [dragon emoji] C,” Grimes captioned the picture, before adding in a follow-up tweet: “(Normally we post her for her privacy but she’s fairly unrecognizable here since shes channeling Goku or smthn) [sic].”
Replying to a Grimes fan account, Boucher later explained that her daughter is now just called ‘Y’ (pronounced ‘Why’). She wrote: “She’s Y now, or ‘Why?’ or just ‘?’ (But the government won’t recognize that) curiosity, the eternal question, .. and such.”

In 2020 Grimes and Musk changed their son’s name in order to comply with California law.
Elsewhere in last year’s Vanity Fair feature, it was noted that the couple had wanted more children, but Grimes feared serious complications due to her experiencing “scary” health issues during her first pregnancy.
Boucher was also asked whether she and Musk were still together in a romantic sense. “There’s no real word for it,” she replied. “I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid.”
Earlier this year, Grimes explained why her upcoming album Book 1 has not yet been released. The star then revealed in February that she was “making music for the first time in ages”, adding: “I forgot this is very fun.”
Grimes’ fifth and most recent studio record, Miss Anthropocene, came out in February 2020.
