Kanye West has said that he thinks he embarrassed his estranged wife Kim Kardashian with his 2020 bid to become US president.

The rapper, who released his latest album ‘DONDA’ in August, opened up in a five-minute Instagram video titled ‘Thanksgiving Prayer’ about his feelings on the matter, as well as his public relationship with Christianity, his mental health, and his family.

“Good lord, my wife did not like me wearing the red hat,” West said in reference to the ‘Make America Great Again’ caps that dominated Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and tenure.

“Being a good wife, she just wanted to protect me and our family. I made me and our family a target by not aligning with Hollywood’s political stance, and that was hard for our marriage,” he said.

“Then I ran for president without proper preparation and no allies on either side. I embarrassed my wife in the way that I presented information about our family during the one and thank God only press conference. All my dad had to say afterwards was, ‘Write your speech next time, son.'”

He continued: “This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for the family that my wife has given me, I’m thankful for the life God has given me, and I’m thankful for your time, attention, and patience.”

Ye did not explicitly cite Kardashian’s filing for divorce in February but he said that he thinks “every day” about how to get his family “back together”, saying he takes accountability for his actions.

The rapper ended up securing only 60,000 votes during his presidential run last year.

The new comments come a day after West, who now legally goes by Ye, appeared at the Los Angeles Mission’s Thanksgiving event where he admitted to making “mistakes” in his marriage to Kardashian and added that he “needs to be back home” [via MusicNews].

Elsewhere, last week West and Drake appeared for a photo together in what appeared to be an attempt to end their longstanding feud.

In a photo posted to West’s Instagram (November 16), the pair are seen posing at Drake’s house where Dave Chappelle was also present. It looked to be their first friendly meeting since around 2009.

Ye captioned the image, which also included music executive J Prince, with an emoji of a white dove.
