King Princess has confirmed the title of her second album, and shared a new track – you can see the video below.

The singer-songwriter, real name Mikaela Straus, released ‘For My Friends’ today (March 21), along with a Nick Harwood-directed video. It arrives ahead of her new album, ‘Hold On Baby’, which will be released later this year. Discussing the new track, she said: “I thought it would be extra fab to begin releasing this new record with a song about my two best friends from high school.”

“These girls have been through the pits with me, and the more time I spend with them as an adult, the more I’m reminded that they are my home. So thank you my angel horse queens for sticking with me. I love you all and I can’t wait to give you this song.”

The track follows on from ‘Little Bother’, a anthemic indie rock collaboration with alt-soul singer Foushée that was released in January. It is not clear whether that song will appear on ‘Hold On Baby’. Written in conjunction with Denzel Curry collaborator and multi-instrumentalist Zach Fogarty, Straus said of the song at the time: “I have been a big fan of Fousheé for a while, so when we started DM’ing and eventually set a date in the studio, it was a dream. ‘Little Bother’ kind of came out of nowhere; Zach had the guitar part and Fou and I just started going off.”

“It became this song about tiptoeing around someone you’ve lost and feeling like a pest,” she continued. “It poses questions to a person who may not be listening at all and I think that’s a beautiful sentiment.”

‘Hold On Baby’ will be the follow-up to her 2019 debut album, ‘Cheap Queen’, which appeared on a litany of year-end best-of lists. A deluxe edition with an additional five tracks followed in February of 2020. King Princess has U.S. tour dates run the diary for July, September and October, offering a possible hint as to the release date for ‘Hold On Baby’.
