Listen to Dave Grohl’s flashy cover of Barry Manilow’s ‘Copacabana’
The '70s classic is the latest instalment in Grohl's annual 'Hanukkah Sessions'
Dave Grohl has recorded a rendition of Barry Manilow’s ‘Copacabana’ as the latest cover in his second annual ‘Hanukkah Sessions’ – listen to the throwback disco track below.
The Foo Fighters frontman goes old school in a sequinned jacket, performing against a shimmering frilled backdrop for his take on the classic ‘70s track.
The song was released as part of his ongoing series with producer Greg Kurstin, where they cover a Jewish musician for every day of the Festival of Lights.
“Barry Pincus – not only one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th (or any) century, but a mega-mensch to boot!” a Foo Fighters tweet read with the video.
“So, like a good neighbor, you deserve a break today. So grab a bucket of chicken and let’s get stuck on…..”
This year he has already covered the Ramones’ ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’ and Lisa Loeb’s ‘Stay (I Missed You)’.
Last year, after performing renditions from artists like Drake and Beastie Boys, Grohl wrote about what the festive series meant to him.
“As 2020 comes to a close and another Hanukkah ends (my first!) I am reminded of the two things that have gotten me through this year: music and hope,” he said.
“This project, which initially began as a silly idea, grew to represent something much more important to me. It showed me that the simple gesture of spreading joy and happiness goes a long way, and as we look forward, we should all make an effort to do so, no matter how many candles are left to light on the menorah.”
Foo Fighters recently announced their North American tour taking place across May, July and August next year, but have already cancelled the Minneapolis show stating that the venue refused to agree to the band’s Covid safety measures.
Meanwhile, the band last month announced that they will star in ‘Studio 666’, a horror comedy that tells the story of what happens when the rock giants find themselves recording in a mansion plagued by supernatural forces.
Based on a story by Grohl, the flick is scheduled for a wide theatrical release on February 25, 2022.
