By Rolling Stone UK

In the age of streaming, it’s never been easier to listen to new music – but with over 60,000 new songs added to Spotify every day, it’s also never been harder to know what to put on. Every week, the team at Rolling Stone UK will run down some of the best new releases that have been added to streaming services.

This week, we’ve highlighted records by Paolo Nutini, Gwenno, and Two Shell.

Gwenno, Tresor

Tresor is another record that sets Gwenno apart as a singular artist on the modern psychedelic scene. Her second album to be sung almost entirely in Cornish, it musically mines influences from Ryuichi Sakamoto to Eden Ahbez, as the Welsh maverick muses impressionistically on the nature of being. Tresor translates as ‘treasure’, and this is a trove of sonic exploration.

Moor Mother, Jazz Codes

Following her recent collaboration with DJ Haram under the name 700 Bliss, the Philadelphia poet, visual artist, and experimental composer Moor Mother returns with new album Jazz Codes. The album’s title comes from a collection of poems published under the same name, written in honour of jazz and blues icons like Woody Shaw, Amina Claudine Myers, and Mary Lou Williams. Moor Mother uses poetry and free jazz as her base but Jazz Codes moves through a patchwork for influences from Black American music.

Paolo Nutini, Last Night in the Bittersweet

It’d be putting it mildly to say that Glaswegian troubadour Paolo Nutini has hardly rushed this fourth album, arriving as it does eight years after 2014’s Caustic Love. You can tell, too; there is an artful, considerate feel to this sprawling 16-track effort, as Nutini continues to muse on love, loss and life on a record that slaloms through styles and influences.

Two Shell, Icons EP

In the three years they’ve been on the scene, Bristol duo Two Shell have carved out a reputation for club belters, though the individuals behind the project have remained somewhat in the shadows. Perhaps this latest EP, Icons, gives us some insight into what makes the pair tick. Lead single ‘Pods’ proves that they’re hyperpop-adjacent, if not quite direct adherents to the style, while the wonky beat on ‘Dust’ captures the rollercoaster stylings of their live sets. They continue to beguile.
