Tame Impala have shared a new song, written for the soundtrack of the new Dungeons & Dragons film. You can hear it below.

‘Wings of Time’ was penned specifically for Honor Among Thieves, the star-studded big-screen adaptation of the tabletop role-playing game, which hits cinemas later this month. The song, a gently anthemic prog-pop effort that harks back to the band’s early days, was written by Kevin Parker in collaboration with Nicholas Allbrook, frontman with fellow Australian psych rockers Pond

“Being asked to do a track for the D&D soundtrack seemed like an unmissable opportunity to indulge in my long time love of fantasy prog rock,” says Parker in a press release. “I recruited my good friend Nicholas Allbrook, who is the person I know appreciates this subject matter the most. We rented a villa in Spain, that kind of felt like a castle, for two nights whilst on tour for Primavera. That location got us in the right frame of mind and it went from there. We stayed up late coming up with weird ideas and song lyrics.”

It is Parker’s latest venture into soundtracking major Hollywood releases, after having chipped in towards two of last summer’s biggest films, remixing the 1968 Elvis Presley track ‘Edge of Reality’ for Baz Lurhmann’s critically-acclaimed biopic Elvis, as well as teaming up with Diana Ross for the original track ‘Turn Up the Sunshine’, which featured in Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Parker also appears on the latest Gorillaz record, Cracker Island, featuring alongside Bootie Brown on ‘New Gold’. The band last month announced a ten-year anniversary reissue of their second album, Lonerism; their last full-length was 2020’s The Slow Rush. “I had this new sense of creative freedom,” reflected Parker on Lonerism, as the album turned ten last October. “I felt free to be ambitious, weird, pop, experimental, whatever, and didn’t feel judged because I was finally just doing it for myself and believed in myself. For the most part anyway…”

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is released in the UK on March 31, after a number of delays, and is set to star Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Hugh Grant and Regé-Jean Page.
