Tom Grennan has postponed his show in Washington, D.C. after he was hospitalised following an “unprovoked attack and robbery” in New York.

The singer-songwriter is currently on a North American headline tour in support of his second studio album, ‘Evering Road’, which came out in March 2021. He played in New York last night (April 21) and was scheduled to move onto Washington D.C. today (April 22).

In a statement shared on Grennan‘s social media yesterday evening, however, it was announced that the musician’s next gig would not be going ahead as planned.

“In the early hours of this morning after Tom’s New York show he was the victim of an unprovoked attack and robbery outside a bar in Manhattan,” the message read.

“Tom is currently in hospital being assessed by doctors for his injuries which include a ruptured ear, torn ear-drum and issue with his previously fractured jaw.”

The post went on to say that Grennan was “in good spirits but needs to temporarily recuperate whilst doctors assess his ability to continue with touring”.

The statement continued: “Tom is desperate not to let anyone down, however we have taken the precautionary decision to postpone the Washington show tomorrow to a later date, with details to follow.

“We will update on future shows should changes need to be made. We wish to thank Tom’s incredible US fans for their support and understanding.”

The current tour is set to continue in Boston tomorrow (April 23), with further dates following in San Francisco (26) and Los Angeles (27).

Last month saw Grennan share a rousing new single, ‘Remind Me’. “I wanted to write a song that reminded me of a moment in my life where I realised I had given up something that was really making a difference in my life – in a good way,” he explained of the track.

“It’s about reconnecting. It’s that feeling when you’re at the top of the rollercoaster and you’re like: this is the best feeling.”

Upon the song’s release, Grennan confirmed that he was currently at work on his third album. “I have a new story to tell,” he said. “I’m on a run, I’m in sixth gear.”

‘Evering Road’ went to Number One in the UK albums chart, shifting over 17,000 chart sales in its first week of release.

Tom Grennan will play a homecoming headline show at Bedford Park on June 4, marking his biggest performance to date.
