Wunderhorse has announced his debut ‘Cub’ is set to be released on 16 September.

The solo project of former Dead Pretties frontman Jacob Slater, ‘Cub’ will feature all of Wunderhorse’s releases so far including latest single ‘Butterflies’.

Explaining why he wanted to go in a different musical direction to his former band, Slater said: “I was tired of having to get up on stage and pretend I wanted to throw myself around and smash things up every night and sing these intense songs. They were good songs, but I didn’t think we’d be able to transition into doing the more introspective music that I wanted to make. I thought it would just alienate people.”

Wunderhorse also announced changes he has made in his life: “I stopped taking drugs and I stopped the band. The two things seemed to go hand in hand. I thought if I carried on with the band, I wouldn’t be able to not keep doing that to myself. There’s the old myth that you need to take a load of drugs to be really creative, but I was much more creative when I wasn’t taking drugs. I wanted to love that part of myself again and I wanted to fall back in love with music again.”

Wunderhorse is currently embarking on his debut solo tour, starting off in Glasgow tomorrow night (9 June).

He will then go on to play dates in Liverpool, York, Sheffield, Manchester, Cambridge, Bath and London.

He will be supported on the dates by indie rock band Sorry.

Tickets for the tour can be purchased here. Wunderhorse is also set for a big headline show at Lafayette on 20 October in London. Tickets for the Lafayette date go on sale 10 June at 10am.

They can be purchased here.
