Arcade Fire have announced they will make their return this week with new single ‘The Lightning I, II’.

Confirmation of the new track comes after the band teased their return earlier this month with snippets of sheet music, which were published on a selection of mysterious postcards sent to fans to decipher.

Now, the Canadian group have confirmed that they will release ‘The Lightning I, II’ on Thursday at 2PM ET/11AM PT (6PM GMT), as well as sharing the track’s chords for fans to play ahead of release.

“Our new song The Lightning I, II comes out on Thursday,” they wrote on social media.

“Here are the chords to make it a little easier to play. We really missed you.”

The band, whose last album was 2017’s ‘Everything Now’, will also play a last minute benefit show in New Orleans to benefit the people of Ukraine tonight (March 14).

Their last public appearance came late last year, when band leaders & husband/wife duo Win Butler & Regine Chassagne performed at a Las Vegas event called the ‘Galaverse Crypto Party’.

Introducing ‘My Body Is A Cage’ from the band’s 2007 album ‘Neon Bible’, Butler said: “You know that dream that you have where you’re, like, in Las Vegas and your band’s not there and you’re about to sing, and then you turn around and there’s a bunch of people eating dinner? Yeah, it’s a fucked up dream.”

In late 2020, Butler told the Rick Rubin’s Broken Record podcast the band recorded “two or three” albums during the pandemic.
